There will be a sitar recital at Plainfield Opera House on June 8th featuring Pandit Deobrat Mishra. Deobrat Mishra is a celebrated Indian sitar artist and composer, an exponent of the esteemed Benares Gharana school of Hindustani classical music and son of Pandit Shivnath Mishra, a legend of Sitar from this Gharana. Since 1994 Deobrat has been touring throughout India, Europe, and North America. His many projects include music workshops, solo performances for radio and television as well as world music programs with Indian and European artists. He teaches at the Academy of Indian Classical Music in Varanasi, India, the school which he founded in 2006.

Deobrat is one of India’s leading cultural ambassadors of our times and his visit to our community is truly a rare and special occasion. Proceeds will benefit the Benares Academy of Indian Classical Music, and the DAYA foundation prison yoga programs. Deobrat will be performing with his nephew, Prasant Mishra on Tabla. Tickets are $23 dollars, $20 for seniors/students and are available at the door.
