The Functions of the Right Side of the Brain
The artist, Ellen Questel, will be the featured speaker at the Canfield Art Gallery’s third Art Talk on Saturday May 13 from 2-3. The talk will explore the right and left hemispheres of the brain. The perception of visual imagery is particularly dependent upon the intuitive, holistic modes of thinking of the right brain. In this talk, we will look more closely at the critical contribution of the right brain in the perception and creation of art.
Ellen Questel, Ph.D, studio artist, academic psychologist, and long time student of visual imagery will draw from a cross-disciplinary background in art history, theoretical psychology, and Jungian studies. She has led seminars on visual thinking, symbolic imagination, dream imagery, alchemy, and the perceptual basis of language and thought. In 2014, she presented her Alchemy series of mixed media works at the Science, Art and the Sacred seminar at David Peat’s Pari Center for New Learning in Italy. She works with pastel, mixed media, and digital printmaking.
