Yestermorn, a trio including Steve Maleski, Suzanne Rhodes, and Chuck Fergus, sings a cappella, close harmony American roots music: Appalachian, shape note, gospel, and folk. Many of their songs reach back centuries to old New England, the Appalachians, and the British Isles. Others are newer, but with tunes and subject matter squarely within the American folk tradition. With the exception of the shape note hymns, few of these songs were formally composed and even fewer were arranged for an ensemble. This is wondrous music, with powerful lyrics grounded in human emotion.
