Supporting Vermont’s Migrant Farm Workers: El Viaje Mas Caro (The Most Costly Journey) and the Huertas (Garden) Project
El Viaje Mas Caro is an ethnographic cartooning project. Julia Doucet, a nurse at Middlebury’s Open Door Clinic, will talk about this collaborative storytelling project to mitigate loneliness, isolation, and despair among Latin American migrant farm workers on Vermont dairy farms.
The Huertas Project enables Latino/a migrant farmworkers and families to access culturally familiar, healthy and local foods. Naomi Wolcott-MacCausland, Migrant Health Coordinator at UVM Extension, will provide insight into food access challenges for immigrant farmworkers and how Huertas aims to increase access to culturally familiar vegetables and herbs.
Our community is providing garden seedlings to distribute through Huertas – if you have started any extras that you would like to share with our gardening friends, please bring them with you to this presentation (or drop off at 11 Pleasant St porch, with a note).
