The Children's Room received a notice from the Thatcher Brook Primary School administration on May 2, 2017 to vacate our space within TBPS effective July 1, 2017. We were shocked and saddened to receive such sudden news. We wish we had been asked to engage in a dialogue prior to this date, to explore opportunities other than eviction. Had we or the community been included in this decision-making process, we may have found a mutually beneficial solution that didn’t result in such a profound loss for the families that we serve.

We’ve benefited greatly from a donated space for many years and for that we are extremely grateful. We also strongly believe that The Children’s Room is a unique and valuable asset within our community. We are a model 501c3 program and the only one like it in the state. In 2016 alone, we served 264 families and caregivers with a total of 3,725 visits from community members. We hosted 17 community events (all but one was free) and importantly, integrated countless Waterbury-Duxbury children and their families into TBPS.

We are asking for your support during this difficult time. Thank you to those of you who have already reached out to us. If you cherish The Children’s Room, as a current user, alumni or a community member who recognizes our value, please attend the Community Forum and make your opinion known publicly.

Some other options for engagement:
Post on Front Porch Forum
Send a letter to the Waterbury Record
Post on the TBPS Facebook page (please be respectful)
Send emails to members of the Waterbury/Duxbury School Board

Our children and families love Thatcher Brook. We love our space and the benefits and flexibility it brings to our programming. It is our home and it will be devastating to lose it. Let’s work together as a community to save it!
