Lamoille River Paddlers Trail - Paddle/Social May 10

Past event
May 10, 2017, 5 to 8 PM

Join us for the Second Annual Lamoille River Paddlers’ Trail Community Social, on Wednesday, May 10th!

The Lamoille River Paddlers’ Trail and Lamoille County Conservation District are teaming up to restore a riverbank at Oxbow Park, offer a guided paddle with river experts, then present water quality and river work completed by both organizations.

Volunteers are requested to help with the riverbank restoration project at Oxbow Park on May 10 prior to the social. With support from the Town of Morristown, the bank will be restored to include rock steps to the river, buffer plantings, and regraded the parking lot to disperse water flow. The site will be transformed into a new access site where river enthusiasts can safely access the river.

Interested paddlers can also meet for an optional, 2.8 mile group paddle to the new access site at Oxbow Park, where guides will be available to paddle along with participants. Eric Nuse will guide those interested in fishing tips, Jim Ryan will guide those interested in learning about river dynamics, and Kim Jensen will guide those interested in birding and botanizing along the river. Paddlers are asked to meet at the Morrisville Rotary Access Area (off Route 15) at 5:00 pm. A free shuttle for paddlers back to cars will be provided generously by Bert’s Boats.

The true “social” begins at 6:00 pm at the 10 Railroad Street Restaurant, where there will be free appetizers, a raffle, and presentations, with dinner and drinks available for purchase. This gathering will be a chance to meet other river enthusiasts, learn about completed river and water quality projects, and help set priorities for the year ahead.

The Lamoille River Paddlers’ Trail is a volunteer driven, community effort. We hope you will join us to show your support for efforts to foster recreational use of the Lamoille River compatible with the valley’s rich ecology and productive working landscape!
