Get Your Green Up Day Bags for Saturday!

Past event
May 6, 2017, 9 to 11 AM

Hi!
Green Up Day is finally here, and there sure is plenty of work to be done!
The first Green Up Day was launched by Governor Deane Davis in 1970 in reaction to the atrocious amount of litter on the roads and highways. Since that time, thousands of Vermonters of all ages and walks of life have come together on the first Saturday in May to clean up their communities by picking up litter from roadsides, waterways, woods and public areas. This is just a very small history of Green Up Day, in case you are new to the area, have never heard of it, or have but just never participated.

Please come over to the New Haven Town Green, across from the Village Green Market, this Saturday, May 6th to pick up Free Green Up bags and gloves, and to register for a road or area to Green Up.
If you would like to get bags earlier, please contact me to arrange for a pick up.

Our Road Crew will be out picking up Green Up Bags from every road to take to the Transfer Station on Monday, May 8th. Please make sure to leave the bags where you left off, tied shut, and placed just off the side of the road.
Just to clarify, NO furniture or appliances will be accepted as "Green Up" waste.
Only waste in a bright green "Green Up" bag will be accepted as Green Up waste. Any tires, batteries, car parts or large/awkward pieces that you find can be placed on the side of the road with your (full) Green Up bag.
Please do not try to haul big or dangerous pieces out to the road.
Please call me to report dumping sites or animal carcasses.

The Health Department has urged Towns to please spread the word about the serious Tick issue.
Please remember to guard against ticks by wearing closed toe shoes with socks, long pants and shirt sleeves,
and to use a tick repellent.
Please check to make sure you are tick-free after Greening Up.

Many hands make for light work, and it couldn't be more true than on Green Up Day!
Thank You for participating in this important, annual, state wide effort!

Gratefully,
