Essex Community Players is proud to announce its upcoming production for Spring 2017: George Bernard Shaw’s classic comedy Pygmalion. The inspiration for the musical, My Fair Lady, the themes are as relevant today as when the show was first presented in 1913. The play tells the story of phonetics Professor Henry Higgins (Peter Olson), who believes he can pass the bedraggled Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle (Kat Redniss) as a genteel lady.
Pygmalion is directed by Nan Murat and produced by Becky Millard, with a talented cast drawn from Essex and the surrounding area. “I grew up with My Fair Lady and when I first read Pygmalion in college, I fell in love with Shaw’s wit, clever language and strong characters,” says Murat. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share this show with the ECP community.”
As part of ECP’s “Essex Gives Back” program, all donations collected at the intermission concessions table will be donated to a local charitable organization. For this show, the director has selected the Children’s Miracle Network. All funds raised locally support the UVM Children’s Hospital to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment, and charitable care.
Pygmalion opens Thursday, May 4th and runs through Sunday, May 14th. Show times are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 2:00. Sunday, May 7th is Essex Day and all Essex residents receive a discounted rate for tickets.
