Intro to Your Bill of Rights in a Time of Resistance

Past event
May 9, 2017, 5:30 to 7:30 PM

I am really excited about this workshop. It's a two-part event (May 9 and 16, 5:30-7:30) at the Peace & Justice Center lead by Robert Appel. Robert is my go-to for constitutional knowledge and citizen/protester rights. Space is limited so please preregister.

Topics include the First Amendment protections regarding free speech, right to petition governmental officials, press freedom and prohibitions against religious discrimination. Participants will also be introduced to the critical protections afforded by the Fourth Amendment’s prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures, Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination and Sixth Amendment right to counsel for persons facing potential incarceration. The Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection and due process clauses will also be examined. All discussions will be within the context of protest actions empowering participants to know their rights and make informed choices when resisting the current regime.
