Property Taxes Due in 2 Weeks!

Past event
May 15, 12 AM to 12 AM, May 16, 2017

Hi neighbors! Fourth quarter property taxes are due in 2 weeks, on Monday, May 15th. I will send out more reminders as we get closer to the due date. There are a few ways to pay:

-Stop by the City Clerk's office at City Hall, 39 Main Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00-4:30 to pay by cash or check only. After hours, you can drop your payment (in an envelope) in the drop box behind City Hall, to the right of the double doors. You can do this up until midnight on May 15th. (Yes, one of our devoted employees actually swings by at midnight to collect payments!)

-Pay online through a SECURE third party by clicking "Online Payments" on our city website, www.montpelier-vt.org. Please note the following about online payments: If you pay by e-check (putting in your account information), there is a FLAT fee of $2.95. If paying by credit or debit card, there is a fee of 3% of your payment.

-Mail your payment in. As long as the envelope is postmarked by a postal service (not a metered machine) by May 15th, it will be considered on time.

Tax payments are considered LATE and will incur late fees if they are received after midnight, Monday, May 15th (unless a postal service postmarks it on the 15th). Late fees, determined by our City Council, are as follows: 5% penalty for the first five days after the due date. After the first five days, the penalty goes up to 8%. Additionally, 1% interest will be added to the principal (original tax amount due for that quarter) one month from the due date and for the subsequent two months. Thereafter, interest will go up to 1.5% per month. This can be a little confusing, so feel free to call or e-mail for clarification.

*Remember, to avoid those pesky late fees, you can sign up to have your tax and water/sewer payments removed from your bank account automatically on the dates they are due.*

Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or for information on how to sign up for automatic payments.

Sincerely,

Jamie Granfield-Carroll
