White Fragility Talk and Discussion

Past event
May 4, 2017, 11 AM to 12 PM

Thursday, May 4, 11am-12 noon, at the Peace & Justice Center. White Fragility is a state in which even a small amount of racial stress becomes intolerable for a white person. Recognizing and naming it can be a helpful way to stay engaged in discussions about racism and in ongoing racial justice work, even when it is uncomfortable. In this hour long program Rachel Siegel and Beverly Little Thunder will speak about this concept and outline how it actively perpetuates racism in a cycle, she will then ask for help from participants to explore ways that the cycle can be disrupted. This is a great activity to do on a lunch break and/or between classes if you can make your schedule work so you are available.
