Green Burial Presentation and Discussion

Past event

Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society (CVUUS) Caring Network welcomes you to a Green Burial presentation and discussion on Thurs. May 11, 7 PM at 2 Duane Court in Middlebury.

The short documentary video, Dying Green, will be shown followed with a talk by Michelle Acciavatti. Acciavatti is a home funeral, green burial and advanced care planning guide, and death midwife from Montpelier. She is coauthor with the Calais Cemetery Commission of Bill H 3, currently under consideration in the Vermont Legislature. H 3 would raise the required minimum burial depth from five feet to three and a half feet, an important consideration for green burial practices. A green burial is a return to the way we have cared for our dead for thousands of years. A green burial does not embalm the body, uses a simple biodegradable shroud or coffin, no concrete or steel vault and a grave only three and a half feet deep.

The presentation will be followed by audience questions and discussion with Acciavatti.
