Green Up Day is Coming!

Always the first Saturday in May, this year May 6 marks 47 years of proudly continuing Vermont’s unique Green Up Day tradition.
Volunteers statewide will come together in their communities to tackle trash and litter along roadsides, in public spaces, natural landscapes and waterways. Vermont was the first state in the nation to designate one special day for cleaning the entire state.
This is the 7th year that the South Burlington Land Trust (SBLT) is organizing and managing the entire Green Up Day effort in South Burlington with the active help and participation of City staff and the departments of Planning and Zoning, Recreation and Parks and Public Works.
Want to be involved? Here’s what you can do:
1. Commit to cleaning up an area – volunteers will help point you to a spot on Saturday morning if you do not already have a place.
2. If you know what area you will be cleaning up before the day, please contact SBLT Board Member Michael Mittag at mittag.michael@gmail.com, and sign up for a location. He is keeping a master map to assure comprehensive coverage of the entire City.
3. Bags will be available Saturday May 6 from 8 am to 2 pm in the parking lot at City Hall, 575 Dorset Street. This will also be the drop-off point for ALL trash collected. There is no roadside pickup.

On Green Up Day you can also enjoy the free food and refreshments generously donated by Burlington Bagel Bakery and Klinger’s Bakery while supplies last. Casella Waste Management has donated two large dumpsters for the effort.
The SBLT will award prizes for:
The Most Trash Collected by one person/team.
The Most Unusual Object Found.
