Do you smile at the first sounds of the winged harbingers of spring like the Red-winged Blackbird or the American Woodcock? Does the evening song of the Hermit Thrush stop you in your tracks?
Join us for a spring tune-up just in time for bird migration season when The Nature Museum teams up with naturalist Bridget Butler, aka the “Bird Diva,” who is heard on VPR’s biannual Bird Show. Butler will present “Bird is a Verb” on Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at NewsBank Conference Center at 352 Main Street in Chester, VT. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Light refreshments from the Grafton Village Bakery will be served.
Butler invites you to become a member of the “flock” of an estimated 5.8 million birdwatchers in the United States. This lively program is full of gorgeous bird songs and useful tips and will have you tuned into the bird world around you like never before. Butler will share tips and tricks for bird identification, talk about equipment and resources, teach participants about birding by ear, and describe natural communities for different varieties of birds.
A naturalist for more than 20 years, Butler enjoys playing matchmaker for Vermont’s wildscape and the people who call Vermont home. Her mission is to tap into each person's innate passion for nature through exploration and deep listening. She is the former Conservation Education Specialist at ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Burlington. She also appears weekly on WPTZ NewsChannel 5 to discuss natural history and environmental topics.
This event is recommended for adults and children over 10. Tickets will be $10 at the door until sold out. To register or for more information, please go to: www.nature-museum.org.
“Bird is a Verb,” is part of The Nature Museum’s year-round community speaker series. Upcoming programs to broaden your seasonal enjoyment include a guided bird walk and a guided spring mushrooms and wild edibles exploration on May 20.
