Potluck & Community Conversation on Bethel Downtown Revitalization
What’s next for downtown Bethel? From a retaining wall mural to banners and benches, game tournaments to flower planting, there are many ideas in the works. The Bethel Revitalization Initiative and Town Meeting Committee are hosting a potluck dinner & community conversation on Sunday, April 30, from 5-7 PM at the Bethel Town Hall. All are welcome to come, learn about progress and project ideas, discuss what they want to see downtown, and get involved.
Since the Better Block project last fall, the energy and progress downtown have continued with pop-up shops in the historic Blossom Block, a community pizza night at Cockadoodle Pizza, and plans in the works for a mural on the large retaining wall at the southern entrance to town. All of these efforts build on the vision and progress launched by Bethel’s “‘Wall to the Hall” plan - dating back to the 1990s. There will be copies of that historic plan available at the potluck, so that people can explore the progress and future possibilities. After a short presentation, participants can join table discussions about a specific topic or project - such as public art, traffic calming, beautification, events & programming - to hone in on project ideas and plan for getting started.
The summer downtown projects will kick off with a downtown beautification day on Saturday, May 20 from 1-3 PM. Volunteers are needed to join a fun work party, with the Arts Bus available for kids. Bring your work gloves and tools and come out to Main Street to help plant, sweep, rake, and beautify our downtown - from the Wall to the Hall - for summer.
Learn more at bethelrevitalizationinitiative.org/events and contact the BRI if you would like to be involved but can’t attend either event.
