Awesome Blues Trio in Cabot May 6

Past event
May 6, 2017, 7 to 10 PM

At the last minute, Cabot Arts found itself able to present PREACHIN' IN THAT WILDERNESS, the incomparable blues trio of Eleanor Ellis, Andy Cohen and William Lee Ellis in an evening of country blues, gospel and ragtime on SATURDAY, MAY 6 at 7:00 PM in the CABOT TOWN HALL (Willey Building). Admission will be by donation at the door. These folks have known each other and made great music together since 1990, when they recorded "Preachin' in That Wilderness" as a cassette; it has since been released as a CD by Riverlark. Andy is a multi-instrumentalist, a fabulous showman, an outstanding exponent of the Piedmont style and the guy who showed me how the great Bahamanian guitarist Joseph Spence did it! Eleanor traveled and played with gospel street-singer Flora Molton, Piedmont blues man Archie Edwards and the Delta blues great Eugene Powell; she is a founder of the D.C. Blues Society and producer of the video documentary "Blues Houseparty". Memphis-born guitarist and composer William Lee Ellis (no relation) visited Cabot several years ago with Martin Grosswendt and Michael Taub; he's the son of banjo composer Tony Ellis and a godson of bluegrass icon Bill Monroe. In addition to an extensive recording career, he is an associate professor of ethnomusicology at St. Michael's College in Colchester. Don't miss this blues reunion! It might never come around again!
