We'd love to see friends and neighbors at the Vt. Choral Union's celebratory 50th anniversary "Wings of Song" concert in Middlebury this Friday evening. The choirs' 36 singers hail from Addison and Chittenden Counties and beyond, and love to perform a cappella classical music that span historical styles from the Middle Ages to the present. The 90-minute
program starts at 7:30pm at the Mahaney Center for the Arts on the Middlebury College campus. Tickets are $12 / $6 students, available at the door that evening; or call 443-MIDD to reserve tickets in advance.
The program includes music by the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen; Renaissance and Baroque composers William Byrd & Heinrich Schutz; evening songs German Romantic composers Johannes Brahms & Josef Rheinberger; inspiring cathedral music by Maurice Durufle and C.V. Stanford; 20th century music by Samuel Barber, Francis Poulenc, Randall Thompson, and others; and the premiere of a dazzling new work by award-winning Middlebury graduate Christina Whitten Thomas, that sets the poetry of Jay Parini and past Middlebury resident Abigail Carroll.
This promises to be an inspiring concert, as the voices of VCU's singers take flight with soaring a cappella! Contact Jeff Rehbach, 989-7355, for more information.
