Being Mortal” Movie and discussion:   On April 19 (Twin Valley Senior Center) and April 20  at the Stowe Community Church at 137 Main Street in Stowe (both 5:30 – 8, with light snacks at 5:30,film starting at 6 and discussion at 7:00), the short film “Being Mortal” based on the book by Atul Gawande will be shown. “FRONTLINE follows renowned New Yorker writer and Boston surgeon Atul Gawande as he explores the relationships doctors have with patients who are nearing the end of life. In conjunction with Gawande’s new book, Being Mortal, the film investigates the practice of caring for the dying, and shows how doctors — himself included — are often remarkably untrained, ill-suited and uncomfortable talking about chronic illness and death with their patients.”  These events (film and discussion)  are being organized by a the Hospice and Palliative Care subgroup of the Community Alliance of Health Excellence group.
