Local teen selected to sing with honors choir on Sidney Opera House stage.

Daye Gordon a senior at Northfield High School, has been selected for the 2017 High School Honors Performance Series at Sydney Opera House. Daye will perform tenor in July with the Honors choir. Participation in one of the two Honors Ensembles is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across the world. According to Morgan Smith, Program Director, “Being selected to the Honors Performance Series is something each Finalist should be extremely proud of accomplishing. We processed more than 18,000 nominations this year and have selected over 150 of the most talented student performers from around the world. Working with these conductors and performing at Sydney Opera House is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these musicians never forget”.

Daye is working to raise the $5,000 needed to participate in this opportunity. A cabaret concert and dinner fundraiser for this effort will be held on Friday April 28 at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Northfield, 58 State St., Northfield VT. The cabaret concert (Daye and other local singers) and dinner will be a family-friendly event with food, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages, vocal performers, and a silent auction. The suggested dinner donation is $10 a person, $5 for students and $25 for a family of four. Doors open at 6:15pm and the concert starts about 7:00pm. Donations of any amount are appreciated and can also be made through a gofundme campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/daye-gordon-sydney)

The cabaret/concert is coordinated with Paine Mountain Arts Council (PMAC) a non-profit in the Northfield area that supports events and programming to nurture the arts. Daye sings with the Community Choir which PMAC supports. Daye is a student of teacher, Margaret Cook, who has led several local students to Carnegie Hall through the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. This Series presents accomplished 9th-12th grade musicians from across the country in a performance at the famous venue.
