In September 2014 a conversation on Front Porch Forum inspired a group of us to get together and talk about building a dog park in Middlebury. After two-and-a-half years of planning, scouting locations, working with the Town and Middlebury College, and including one year of fundraising, our dreams are now coming to fruition.
We'll announce more details in the coming weeks, but the dog park is under construction and will be opening soon. We're planning an official opening and "leash cutting" for Saturday, May 13 from 10:00-12:00...so save the date! Please bring a can or bag of dog food to donate to Homeward Bound, to thank them for all the help they've given us planning the park. We also welcome donations of cash, checks, or redeemable cans and bottles to support the park itself.
Meanwhile please stay out of the park area during construction (until May 13 or prior notice); we still have work to do before we can open.
Our success has been made possible thanks to so many generous individuals and businesses. Together we fully funded the primary up-front costs and one year of basic maintenance. Now we're raising funds for additional amenities. We're starting out with a big fenced-in field (with two sections for large and small dogs) but dog parks are much more fun with park benches, agility equipment, shade trees, and other amenities. Our long-term vision is to get a water supply too, as we're currently a bring-your-own-water affair. And above all else, we need maintenance funds to sustain us for years into the future.
Please consider donating to improve and sustain our new park. If you can give $500 or more we'll post a permanent plaque on a section of the fence, engraved with your name, your business's name, in honor/memory of your pet, or another message of your choosing.
