Aikido practioner and instructor Linda White will discuss and demonstrate the modern non-violent martial art of Aikido on Thursday April 13 from 7 - 8:30 pm at a free program hosted by the One World Library Project in Bristol.
Aikido holds a unique place among the forms of martial arts. Although it includes the lineage of ancient martial art forms, Aikido was developed in Japan in the twentieth century. Although practitioners may appear to be engaged in a fight, Aikido is about resolving conflict in a harmonious way.
Audience members at this program will be invited to try one or two simple exercises to experience some of the mind-body connection at the heart of this form.
White has been practicing Aikido since 1982 when she was introduced to an inspiring teacher during a three-year stay in Japan. She is currently Chief Instructor of Blue Heron Aikido Dojo in Middlebury and is also Chair of Japanese Studies at Middlebury College.
The program will be held at the Lawrence Memorial Library in Bristol. For more information on this event or about the One World Library Project, call the Lawrence Memorial Library at 453-2366.
