At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, the Craftsbury Energy Committee will host a collaborative talk by Wonder and Wisdom and The Art House called “Community Greenspace 2.0” at the Craftsbury Public Library. The slide show and discussion is co-presented by the two nonprofit directors; Ceilidh Galloway-Kane and Jim Flint. They will share the story of the site’s transformation into a beautiful park-like setting which includes nature trails, an amphitheater, stage, and labyrinth. They will also share future collaboratives between the two organizations.
The Community Greenspace, in Craftsbury Village, is gearing up to celebrate its first birthday during Earth Week, April 16-22. The two acre site, located at 321 South Craftsbury Road, came into being in April, 2016 through the efforts of Wonder & Wisdom, The Art House, Town of Craftsbury, Sterling College, and dozens of community volunteers. The greenspace is a place for people of all ages to enjoy nature, the arts, outdoor education, inspiration, and recreation.
Plans for 2017 include relocating The Art House pizza oven to the greenspace, pizza and live music events, building a kiosk, and expanding the trails and natural playground area. Afterschool kids from Craftsbury REACH! and Lakeview School will enjoy activities at the greenspace on Thursday afternoons this spring through a special grant from NEK Kids on the Move.
Celebrate Earth Day by attending their "Earth Day Birthday" celebration at the greenspace on Saturday, April 22, from noon to 4 p.m. Participants are encouraged to park in Craftsbury Village and take the short walk to the greenspace. The free family event will include nature walks, volunteer projects, whiffleball, cake and ice cream, and live music.
