Why should I pick it up? Join us for APRIL STOOLS DAY AND MONTH!

Do you care about the health of our lake, rivers, streams, and other local water bodies? If so, join the Friends of Northern Lake Champlain on Saturday, April 1st for April "Stools" Day to help pick up pet waste at the Collins Perley Walking & Jogging Path in St. Albans. Pet waste left on sidewalks, streets, yards or other open areas can be washed away and carried by rainwater into storm drains to nearby rivers, lakes and streams and cause many problems, such including unsafe swimming conditions. With over 700 hundred licensed dogs in the City of St. Albans this can add up to a lot of waste. A single gram of pet waste contains an average of 23 MILLION fecal coliform bacteria, some of which can cause disease in humans.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, dog waste is as toxic to the environment as chemical and oil spills. Come join a community wide effort to clean up parks, sidewalks and trails to help protect our waters.

If you can’t join us on Saturday, please continue to participate in April "Stools" Month and help us keep pet waste out of our waterways. For more information, please email Thomas Bryce at tbrycefnlc@gmail.com.
