Unique opportunity to support our New American neighbors, and have some fun:
(with this multicultural twist and music, even I think a fashion show could be fun.)
(1) On Thursday, April 13, from 7 to 11 PM at Higher Ground come celebrate at the Karibu (Welcome) fashion show featuring New American models from countries around the world who will be wearing traditional dress created by artisans from their own community.
When asked why the women wanted to participate in the Fashion Show, they overwhelmingly said “we want to share who we are, our culture, with the community that has welcomed us wholeheartedly!” The clothing styles, colors, textures, and how they are worn are expressions of the cultures our new neighbors have come from and they show the vibrancy and creativity they have brought to their new homes.
The evening will open with the African drumming group Africa Jamono. CVOEO’s Sandrine Kibuey, formerly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will co-host and bring her knowledge of the New American community and her passion for supporting our new neighbors to the stage. You will also hear the models tell their stories.
Following the fashion show, Africa Jamono will reappear, and a dance party will begin. Proceeds will benefit CVOEO programs for New Americans.
Tickets in advance are $20. At the door they are $25.
CVOEO (Champlain Office of Economic Opportunity) addresses fundamental issues of economic, social, and racial justice and works with people to achieve economic independence.

(2) Help subsidize tickets for New American families to participate in the Karibu event. With your generosity, we would like to raise $800 for 40 tickets for members of our New American community. Any and all donations are much appreciated. To donate, please go to https://www.youcaring.com/newamericanfamiliesinburlingtonvt-782447?utm_source=mandrill&u[...]Trx.
How exciting and enriching it will be to spend an evening learning about our New American neighbors, sharing a dance floor, and celebrating the stories that bring us together.
If you could spread the word about these opportunities, it would be much appreciated!
