YOUTH LEAD POETRY SLAM DEDICATED TO SOCIAL JUSTICE THROUGH POETRY
Part of the Mad River Valley Libraries' Vermont Reads programs, Muslim Girls Making Change will perform original works based on their unique life experiences. Members are Hawa Adam, Kiran Waqar, Lena Ginawi, and Balkisa Abdikadir, who are currently high school students in Burlington. Tired of having their voices shut out or ignored by an older generation, they turned to slam poetry to be heard and to make a change. MGMC has performed throughout Vermont, including the recent Women's March in Montpelier, and competed on a national level. Huffington Post included them in their list of 17 Muslim American Women Who Made America Great in 2016. Their performance is free and open to the public.
