The Green Mountain Youth Symphony will be performing on April 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Barre Opera House. The GMYS Spring Concert will showcase all three orchestras—Repertory, Concert, and Senior Orchestras each perform their own musical offerings. Each orchestra is comprised of students elementary through high school age who come together in weekly rehearsals for a wonderful opportunity to play incredible music with incredible conductors.

The Repertory Orchestra, under the baton of Paul Perley, has been exploring music from around the world this semester. Their program includes a guest performance by local musician Pitz Quattrone on Didgeridoo/Yidaki.

The Concert and Senior Orchestras are led by GMYS Artistic Director, Bob Blais. Concert Orchestra offerings include familiar tunes like Over the Rainbow and Orpheus in the Underworld along with others that may be new to the audience.

Mr. Blais and the Senior Orchestra will present a program mixing popular classics like Rossini’s William Tell Overture and favorite scores from Broadway and the movies. “These modern scores play the same role in our times that music from popular operas did in past centuries,” says Blais. Also featured on the program is our senior soloist Emily Sinnott of Fayston who will play Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino for Flute and Orchestra.

Tickets are available by donation at the door. Adults $15, Seniors $12, Students (K-12) $5, Children under 5 are free.

GMYS is proud to present this concert as part of Vermont Arts 2017, a project of the Vermont Arts Council.
