Past event
Nov 2, 2013, 7:30 to 9 PM

On Saturday, November 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Guilford Community Church, Friends of Music at Guilford presents "Sparks," a celebration of the life and works of Jean Stewart McLean (1917-1963). Jean's poems, short fiction, and one-act plays are included in a 370-page volume by that name edited by her son Don McLean, a Guilford resident. The evening opens with a short comic skit performed by a young area troupe -- Elijah Taylor, Payton Lawrence, Kate Maisner, Garret Barry-Stoughton, Jeremy West, Marisa Prohaska, and Jenna Barry-Stoughton -- a brief talk and readings from Jean's fiction, and the premiere performance of eleven poems set to music by Don McLean, featuring mezzo-soprano Evelyn McLean accompanied by Kimi Hasegawa, flute; Karen Bressett, clarinet; Kathy Andrew, violin; Pedro Pereira, cello; and Becky Graber, piano. A book-signing and reception follow. Suggested donation: $10. Info: (802) 254-3600, office@fomag.org, www.fomag.org.
