I've watched so many lovely, mature trees being cut down in and around Milton. It is often the case that these trees can be pruned and give many more years of life and health.
Before cutting down a tree, please consider:
THE TRUE COST OF CUTTING DOWN JUST ONE TREE.
What would you consider to be the higher expense of cutting down a tree:
(1) The financial cost? (2) The environmental cost?
Environment
One large tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
One large tree can provide a day’s supply of oxygen for up to four people.
Wildlife
Think of all the wildlife one tree supports such as shelter, homes and food.

Property
A mature tree can often have an appraised value of between $5,000 and $10,000 (Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers)
A healthy tree can increase your property value by as much as 27-50 percent
Energy
The net cooling effect of a young, healthy tree is equivalent to ten room-size air conditioners operating 20 hours a day.” (U.S. Department of Agriculture)
Flooding
One large tree can lift up to 100 gallons of water out of the ground and discharge it into the air in a day.
Trees absorb groundwater and protect the soil (USDA Forest Service)
Wind
View this article on how the trees significantly slowed down the wind speed of Hurricane Irene as it approached land. http://astrosynergy.com/aqua/wind-friction.html
Health
In laboratory research, visual exposure to settings with trees has produced significant recovery from stress within five minutes, as indicated by changes in blood pressure and muscle tension. (Dr. Roger S. Ulrich Texas A&M University)
Medicines such as aspirin come from trees
Food
Whole food sources come from trees (fruits, nuts, etc). (NC State University)
