“AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL HISTORY OF CHITTENDEN COUNTY “

As we all know, there were people living in this area long before Ethan, Ira, and other settlers arrived. However, most of us no very little about who they were and how they lived.

State Archaeologist Jess Robinson will present an overview of Chittenden County's Precontact Native American history from the arrival of its first inhabitants approximately 13,000 years ago through to their contact with Europeans. A question and answer session will follow.

As the State Archaeologist, Jess is centrally concerned with the stewardship, preservation, and interpretation of Vermont's rich archaeological past. His research explores issues surrounding Native American long-distance material exchange, ritual elaboration, and social crisis as these phenomena are evidenced in the Northeastern archaeological record. He has authored or co-authored a number of journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and technical reports about these early inhabitants.
