Dear Neighbors,

Please join Mayor Miro Weinberger for a Pension Summit on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 5:00-8:00pm in Contois Auditorium at City Hall. The Pension Summit is meant to be an educational discussion about the City of Burlington’s retirement system that fosters a shared understanding of its strengths and challenges. Mayor Weinberger will be joined by:

• Beth Pearce, State Treasurer
• Joan Shannon, Burlington City Council President
• Karen Paul, Norm Blais, and Chip Mason, Burlington City Councilors
• George Lovell, AFSCME Representative and Vermont AFL-CIO President
• Joe Keenan, Burlington Fire Fighters Association Local 3044 President
• John Federico, Burlington Police Officers Association President
• Jeffrey Wimette, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 300 Business Manager and Financial Secretary
• Elizabeth Kellar, Guest Speaker and President/CEO of the Center for State and Local Government Excellence

On October 21, the City Council approved a program for the Pension Summit, written by a committee appointed by Mayor Weinberger with input from representatives from all four bargaining units that represent City employees, as well as the members of the Burlington Employee Retirement System Board. • Pension 101
• Why the Retirement System is Important and the Impact on Citizens of a Healthy System
• Our System – Where We Are and How We Got Here
• Keynote Speech: Stories from other Communities and a Path Forward
• Public Forum for Q&A
