Preview of March 13 City Council Meeting

Past event
Mar 13, 2017, 7 to 9 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its first of two meetings for the month of March. Following a brief Local Control Commission meeting that will begin at 7pm in Contois Auditorium in City Hall, we will convene begin our Council meeting immediately following.

The first item on our agenda is a presentation by John Tashiro, the General Manager of City Market. Each year, City Market comes to the Council with an update on their progress and evolution. City Market has 12,000 members and employs 237 Vermonters, 60% of whom live in Burlington. Last year, its sales exceeded $40 million and 39% of their sales are from local products. In the South End, we look forward to the next City Market in November 2017. Plans are also in the works for a Market in the Old North End.

Our deliberative agenda includes a special event outdoor entertainment permit for one day for Citizen Cider on Pine Street on March 18, a public hearing on an ordinance regarding major impact review and a vote on the ordinance following the hearing. We will then have a presentation from Steven Locke, our Fire Chief, on regional dispatch initiatives. We will be voting on a resolution to appoint Chief Locke to a joint survey committee to take the first steps to establishing a union municipal district for regional dispatch. This is a subject that has long been under consideration and I think it is important to see this move forward.

Our last item on our agenda is a resolution regarding the adoption of the Burlington Telecom sale process. At our last meeting, we heard from David Provost, the chair of the Burlington Telecom Advisory Board, on the sale process. This process is the result of months of public meetings and community input.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.

My best,
Karen
