Clamber the streambanks in rubber boots on an early spring morning. Lean far forward to dip a sample bottle into the cold water. Work with a team to carefully note down details…Addison County River Watch Collaborative runs on volunteer power and precision (and perhaps a little coffee).
Every year mid-March, River Watch holds its annual training on water sampling methods with our wonderful network of volunteers. Please join us on Saturday, March 18 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Addison County Regional Planning Commission, 14 Seminary Street, Middlebury; Bristol Bakery bagels, Vermont Coffee Company cups o' joe & fresh fruit will be served starting at 8:30 to prime you for training.
The mission of River Watch is to monitor and assess the condition of Addison County’s creeks, streams and rivers over the long term, to raise public awareness of the values and functions of local watersheds, and to cultivate partnerships that support water quality stewardship.
Trained volunteers sample rivers in Addison County watersheds once per month (on the first Wednesday) from April to September. Please let us know if you are considering volunteering: Matthew Witten, ACRWC Managing Director: 434-3236; mwitten@gmavt.net; Webpage: http://acrpc.org/acrwc.
