Si Kahn has been organizing for action for over 50 years. In the tradition of Joe Hill and Pete Seeger, he has used his music to support his activism. He began organizing with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in the South in 1965 and spent most of his life working to empower ordinary working people in that part of the country.

In 2009, the organization that he founded Grassroots Leadership, won a signal victory in its Campaign to End Immigrant Family Detention, which unfortunately is about to be reversed by the present administration.

Since his retirement in 2010, Si has been actively involve in the campaign to prevent the Pebble Mine strip mine that would destroy the pristine Bristol Bay area of Alaska.

Want to hear some of the music Si uses for organizing? Don’t miss his concert with Joe Jencks at the Old Labor Hall on Monday, March 13.
