Chittenden County Historical Society Lecture Mar. 12

Past event
Mar 12, 2017, 1 to 2:30 PM

Local historian Joseph Perron will outline the history of 106 East Allen Street, an iconic Gothic Revival home in Winooski known to many longtime area residents as the Cameron House. It survived over 150 years amidst a rapidly changing community surrounding the former industrial center of Winooski Falls, but in summer 2016 it was relocated to a new site in Burlington. A presentation discussing the architecture of the house, the influential families through the decades who made their home there, and the impact of Winooski's urban evolution upon it, will be followed by a film documenting the monumental process of moving the building to its new location in Burlington. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view the interior of the newly renovated UVM Alumni House, formerly the Edward Wells Mansion, which features the fine artistry of Winooski master woodcarver Albert Whittekind, who once called 106 East Allen Street home. UVM Alumni House, New Pavilion, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 12. Free parking on site at Grasse Mt. and on street. Free program and refreshments.
