Tendler grew up in Barre and attended Spaulding High School. A graduate of Indiana University, he lives in New York City and serves on the piano faculty of Third Street Music School Settlement, the country’s first community music school. Tendler has performed in nearly every important venue in the United States, but few accomplishments are more impressive than his “America 88x50” project, so named for the 88 keys and 50 states that comprised his self-created solo tour in 2005-2006. Featuring all American artists, Tendler performed the free concerts in eclectic venues willing to take a chance on an emerging artist performing lesser-known works. The tour concluded with a performance at Goddard College in Plainfield on June 2, 2006. Since then he has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, National Sawdust, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Columbia University, the Boston Conservatory and many more musically important locations such as Houston’s Rothko Chapel.
