NATIONWIDE COLLECTIVE ACTION BY IRISH MUSICIANS SET FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 5TH

On March 5th, Vermont’s Irish musicians will join players of Irish music from across the country in organizing Sanctuary Sessions: massive Irish sessions to fundraise for the ACLU, an organization which strives to protect the civil rights of all people. All musicians, instruments, singers, dancers and listeners are welcome to join the Irish session and party at La Puerta Negra in Montpelier and to make a voluntary donation to the ACLU.

Date, location and time:
MONTPELIER SANCTUARY SESSION: Sunday, March 5th from 4-6 p.m. at La Puerta Negra on Main St. in Montpelier

Given that the Irish themselves found sanctuary in America in times of oppression, starvation, and unimaginable poverty, musicians in the Boston Irish community felt it important to add their voices (and music) to those concerned about the trend in the country toward exclusion and prejudice. They then reached out to the broader community of Irish musicians in a nationwide effort to support the civil rights of all people.

The response was immediate: in addition to Montpelier’s event, there will be Sanctuary Sessions held in Portland, ME; Chicago; New York; Boston; Philadelphia; Baltimore; Los Angeles; Portland, OR; Martha’s Vineyard; Asheville, NC; Silver Spring, MD; South Bend IN; Arlington, VA, Cincinnati, OH; St. Louis, MO; San Francisco; Milwaukee, WI; Dublin, Ireland, and many other cities.

Even if you can only stay for a short time, do stop in to say hello, and to support this cause!
