“Arribada”—Short Fiction from Professor Gloria Estela González Zenteno.
Thursday, February 23rd, 7:00pm
Ilsley Public Library Community Room
With the Mexican word "arribada," the scientific community refers to the synchronized nesting of Olive Ridley sea turtles. During winter and spring, a handful of beaches in Costa Rica, India, Mexico, and Nicaragua welcome arribadas—the monthly arrival of thousands of sea turtles who lay their eggs under the full moon’s glow.
In her creative work, Professor González Zenteno explores the relationship some Mexican fishing communities have developed with these ancient animals as they fight to protect them from extinction.
