There will be a talk on Invasive Earthworms in our Gardens, by UVM soil scientist Prof. Josef Gorres, who has done much research on these creatures. Not all earthworms are good for your garden or the forests around us, so you might want to hear about how to identify them, what their habits are, and how you can avoid importing these fast spreading Crazy Snake Worms (truly, this is their common name!) to your own gardens or woodlands.
The only product so far that is being used to control these worms is called ‘Early Bird’ which is comprised of tea (Camellia) seed, urea and kelp, among other ingredients, and the Hardy Plant Club has obtained some of this to sell after the talk.
Sponsored by the Hardy Plant Club of Northern Vermont. Saturday, 2/25, 1:30 pm at the Unitarian Church, 130 Main St., Montpelier, VT. Free and Open to the public.
Any questions or comments on this important environmental topic, or if you cannot go to the talk but would like more info, please contact Rachel Kane at rkane@vtlink.net or call 472-6021
