The public is invited to a free talk about Spirit Riders Equine Center, a nonprofit therapeutic riding program based in Hoosick Falls, New York, on Saturday, February 25 at 1 p.m. at The Left Bank, 5 Bank Street, in North Bennington. The program, featuring Spirit Riders board president Mary Gerisch and executive director Joey Moore and followed by refreshments, is presented by the Bennington Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
Spirit Riders places horses in the service of aiding people in the community with special needs.
Like other therapeutic riding programs that have sprung up around the country, it is particularly useful for helping those with autism, PTSD, physical limitations and other psychological conditions. The horses, most of whom are rescues, have overcome trauma in their own lives and are now ready to help humans to do the same.
