Music of Slavery: Spirituals & Songs of Freedom

Past event
Feb 18, 2017, 3 to 4 PM

Join Steve Finner and Heather Moz at the Aldrich Public Library for an educational, inspirational, and musical way to recognize Black History Month. The horrors of slavery resulted in African-Americans creating their own music of both tragedy and hope. Over 6,000 spirituals have been documented, primarily rooted in the theology of the Hebrew Bible. Many of these were "code songs" pointing the way to the north and to freedom. Steve Finner and Heather Moz will present a program of spirituals and songs of freedom. There will be opportunities for those present to join in singing. This program is appropriate for all ages!
