WORDS AND VOICES
Bob Dylan: Lyrics as Poetry
Friday, March 24, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
Shelburne Museum | Pizzagalli Center for Art and Education Auditorium

"Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, silhouetted by the sea, circled
by the circus sands, with all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves. Let me forget about
today until tomorrow." - Mr. Tambourine Man, Bob Dylan

Over the last five decades, the poeticism of Bob Dylan’s profound, honest, and fiery lyrics have greatly influenced the
world of rock and folk music and continue to exemplify the power that poetry and lyricism can hold within society and our
own selves. In 2016, Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. To celebrate his achievements in songwriting,
Shelburne Museum is hosting Words and Voices, Bob Dylan: Lyrics as Poetry a community poetry read, emceed by Reuben Jackson, host of VPR’s Friday Night Jazz with Reuben Jackson. This event is held in conjunction with our current exhibition, Backstage Pass: Rock & Roll Photography (February 11–May 7, 2017), in which Bob Dylan is featured.

The Museum would like you to come celebrate Nobel Bob with us! We’re reaching out to high schools partaking in this
year’s Poetry Out Loud program, as well as local poets and the greater Vermont community, with a call to all Bob Dylan
fans out there who may be interested in reading some of his lyrics at the event. This will be a welcoming and meaningful
evening for people to come together to appreciate the joy and power of music, poetry, and literature.

How can you participate? It’s simple! Select either a single, complete song or a section of lyrics from one Bob Dylan song
and send them to our Public Programs Assistant, Chloe Vogt at cvogt@shelburnemuseum.org. The song may be
from any decade or album—just as long as it’s written by Bob Dylan! We will sift through the selections to ensure there
are no repeats and contact folks with suggested changes if need be. The finalized list of readers as well as event details
and schedule will be sent out via email to all participants by the week of March 20.

PLEASE SUBMIT SELECTIONS BY FRIDAY, MARCH 17
