Peaceful Protest: No to Coyote Killing Contest!

Past event
Feb 11, 2017, 1 to 3 PM

This Saturday, 1-3pm Bristol Green.
Come join fellow wildlife advocates for a peaceful public demonstration, to show support for Vermont's coyotes, and opposition to the violence and recklessness of the coyote killing contest scheduled Feb. 9-12, 2017. (The contest involves killing coyotes statewide, weighing the bodies in Bristol, with an "awards ceremony” there the next weekend.)

Please help us raise awareness about coyotes, and send the message that Vermonters oppose thrill killing and trophy hunts!
If you want to participate or have questions, just let us know: VCCC.inquiries@gmail.com. You can bring your own signs or we'll have some for you. Please spread the word, and we will welcome you on the Bristol Green!

FYI: Many hunters refuse to participate in these events because they believe contests violate even the most basic ethics. Sadly, the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Dept. allows this cruel activity (and allows coyotes to be hunted 365 days per year with NO LIMIT on the number killed). "These contests send a chilling message that killing is fun, wild animals are disposable, and life is cheap. The contests also serve no ecological purpose; they are at odds with all principles of conservation biology and ecosystem-based management. Far from offering any beneficial management purpose, wildlife killing contests simply promote gratuitous violence, the destruction of countless magnificent and ecologically vital apex predators." ~ Project Coyote

Don't forget to POST YOUR LAND in protest of these contests as another way to protect coyotes and other wildlife. (Please note that posted land must also be registered with your Town Clerk; an annual $5 fee applies). If you wish to post your land but need help, contact VCCC for assistance: VCCC.inquiries@gmail.com
