Mira Nair’s “Mississippi Masala” will be the feature on Friday, February 10, at 7:00, at the Maple Corner Community Center’s winter film series. Nair, known for her films “Salaam Bombay,” “Monsoon Wedding” and the more recent “Queen of Katwe” her tells the story of a cross-cultural romance, between an African-American Mississippian (Denzel Washington) and an Indian-American woman (Sarita Choudhry); both feel like outsiders in the culture of the Deep South. Entertainement Weekly: “a charming and exuberant interracial romance,.. funny, observant, and deeply humane.” Film showings will be presented on the second Friday of each month through April, with an introduction and a post-film discussion led by Rick Winston. Admission is by donation.
