Mad Matt the Democrat Talk, Shoreham Library

Past event
Feb 15, 2017, 7 to 8 PM

Vermont Humanities Council Speakers Bureau Lecture.

In this talk, Vincent Feeney discusses Matthew Lyon- indentured servant, Green Mountain Boy, son-in-law to Thomas Chittenden, land speculator, entrepreneur, and one of the most colorful characters in Vermont's early years. Perhaps best remembered for his imprisonment under the Alien and Sedition Acts, and subsequent re-elections while in jail, his life not only exemplified the promise of possibility in the then-new United States, but also reflected the political tensions of the times.

This program is part of the Orwell & Shoreham Libraries Keynote Speaker Series.
