On Friday, February 10 at 6:30 at the Baldwin Library in Wells River, Reyah Carlson of Bradford will lead a discussion on the medicinal properties of honeybee-produced substances such as honey, pollen, royal jelly, propolis, beeswax, and the venom from a bee's sting. She will also demonstrate "Sting Therapy."
Therapies involving the honeybee have existed for thousands of years. The ancient rock art of early hunter-gatherers depicts the honeybee as a source of natural medicine. Bee venom therapy was practiced in ancient Egypt, Greece, and China. Today, growing scientific evidence suggests that various bee products promote healing by improving circulation, decreasing inflammation, and stimulating a healthy immune response.
Bee therapy, or Apitherapy, has been used to treat a number of conditions such as multiple sclerosis, arthritis and other joint problems, wounds, gout, shingles, burns, tendonitis, and various infections.
Ms. Carlson, an internationally recognized Apitherapist, has been keeping bees since age 12. Physicians, patients and caregivers have attended her courses in the USA, Canada, Belgium, Holland and India. Her talents have been featured on the National Geographic and Discovery Channels.
Most recently, her own battle with Chronic Lyme Disease and bee venom treatment was featured on the television program "THE INCURABLES."
