Press Release from the Westminster School Board Regarding a February 7 Public Meeting on the Upcoming School Merger Vote
The Westminster Community and any other interested citizens of the surrounding towns are invited to a Special School Board Meeting to Discuss Proposed Plans for School District Merger as directed by Act 46. The meeting will be held on February 7, 6:30 p.m. at the Westminster Center School.
If passed, consolidation will be the biggest change in school governance in decades and deserves close consideration. With a merger: the town no longer owns its schools; there is no more town school board; and this will be the last year ever of a school town meeting. Interested citizens may discuss the pros and cons of merging with members of the Consolidation Committee and the School Board.
The vote on consolidation for Westminster, Rockingham, Grafton, and Athens will be on March 7. The merger vote for the Windham Central towns will also be March 7. The merger vote for the Windham Southeast towns will take place later in the spring.
We hope you can come to the Westminster Center School at 6:30p.m. on February 7 to explore the impact of the proposed merger on our schools and the larger community.
