Northfield Candidates Night

The NEPBA Local 406, with support from local O’Maddi’s Delaraunt, will be holding a Candidates Night for eligible Northfield voters, so they may have the opportunity to meet, and ask questions of, the candidates running for elected positions this upcoming Town Meeting Day.

The following candidates have been invited to attend:

Select Board: Three-Year Seat
John Sears
Lynn Doney

Select Board: Two-Year Seat
James Baraw
Julie Goodrich

Electric Utility Commissioner: Three-Year Seat
Steve Fitzhugh
Nicholas Laskovski

Candidates Night will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm in the Community Room of the Brown Public Library. Below is the format and guidelines for the evening:

Candidates Statements:
A. Candidate statements will be made in an order which will be determined by lottery.
B. Candidates will have five minutes each.

Opening Remarks by the Monitor:
A. Welcome
B. Review of the format and guidelines for the evening.

In advance Candidate Questions:
A. Each candidate has been provided predetermined general questions.
B. The response from the candidates for each question will be no longer than 90 seconds.

Candidate Questioning by Eligible Voters:
A. Eligible voters who wish to ask questions will raise their hand to be recognized by the Moderators. The Moderators will determine the order of questions.

B. Questioners will have no longer than 30 seconds to state their questions. The questions can be directed to an individual, all the candidates, or any combination and in an order determined by the questioner. If no order is defined, the candidates will respond on a rotating basis as determined by the Moderators. The response from the candidates will be no longer than 90 seconds. The questioner will state their name and address.

C. Ineligible voters, as determined by the Moderator, will be asked to hold their questions until after the formal meeting and speak to the candidates individually. Candidates will not answer questions from ineligible voters.

Closing Statements
A. Each Candidate will be given 90 seconds for a closing statement. Closing statements will be in the same order as opening statements.

B. Candidates will be able to continue their conversations after the formal meeting with interested parties.

Informal discussions with candidates will end at 8:30 PM.
