Relocalizing Vermont: Back to the Soil

Past event
Feb 2, 2017, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio—two area composters on their initiatives and issues.

9:00 - 10:00 am
GrowCompost in Waterbury is tying into the proliferation of breweries in Vermont by transporting liquid brewery waste for digestion and application to soils. They’re also expanding the food scraps collection program, with an eye on the state’s coming requirement that all food scraps be kept out of landfills. And they’re working to reduce the amount of food waste generated. Lisa Ransom will explain what they’re up to.

At Vermont Compost in Montpelier and East Montpelier, Karl Hammer is finding plastic mixed in with food scraps is his bane. He’ll talk about what he’s doing about it, what consumers can do about it, and what regulators can do about it. And much more...

10:00 - 10:30 am
Resilience Thoughts, a locally told Extempo story, plus upcoming events related to energy, food, and the local economy at the end of the age of oil.
