Finally, snow! Please join the Bakersfield Conservation Commission for a walk on the Shattuck Mountain trails to observe plants in winter. We will have a casual walk while identifying trees and other plants and fungi and talking about how they cope with winter. A number of hand lenses will be available to look at small things like tree buds, and mosses.
Terrain is moderate; the snow level is still okay (as of Wednesday) for walking without snowshoes but some may find it more comfortable to use them. We may wander off-trail to look for interesting things. Distance will probably be less than a mile.
Address: 1331 Waterville Mountain Road, Bakersfield. Please park at the mailbox or at the turn in the driveway near the trail sign. Registration not required. Please email with questions.
