I serve on the board of a local non-profit that uses a unique "housing first" model to work with people who are homeless and have mental health challenges. Pathways Vermont is only 6 years old in VT but its local founder was part of the original team from NYC. It is an evidence-based practice with an 85% success rate of serving people who previously struggled to succeed in housing, all while using permanent housing with no preconditions of sobriety or other expectations. This model truly is the embodiment of treating all people, most of whom have long histories of trauma or forced treatment, with dignity and respect.
I wanted to invite anyone who is interested in learning more to come to to our house here in Essex to hear more about this program. It will be Tuesday, February 7, from 6:30-7:45 at 43 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction.
This isn't a fundraising event, so leave your checkbooks at home. We are working to get the word out about this organization and its unique way of doing work. Being relatively new to VT, we need help getting the word out.
Please let me know if you are coming so I have enough light snacks and drinks!
Thanks,
Maura
